Trumpet Studio
The KU Trumpet Ensemble has been recognized nationally and internationally for its quality performances. Under the direction of Professor Steve Leisring, the KUTE was named as Finalists in both of their appearances this decade at the National Trumpet Competition, in 2006, and 2007. In 2008, the group made a five-city tour to China, and performed to packed houses in large halls in Beijing, Kunming, Shenyang, and Qujing, culminating with performances at the Central Conservatory of Music Beijing and the Concert Hall of the People's Liberation Army Band in the capital city.
In February 2008, KUTE performed to a standing-room-only crowd at the Kansas Music Educator's Conference in Wichita and later in May, the members were featured in a premier work with the Kansas City Symphony. "Fanfare For Those Who Served" was written by Gary Schutze, Principal Trumpet of the KC Symphony for the orchestra and the KUTE and was included in the "Celebration at the Station" Memorial Day performance that was broadcast Live on Public Television throughout the Midwest and performed "live" in front of thousands. In October, that year, the KUTE performed at Webster University in St Louis and in early 2009, they recorded a work commissioned for them by KU Tuba Professor, Scott Watson which will be the title track of his upcoming solo CD.
The KU Trumpet Ensemble is open to music majors and non majors by audition each semester and is currently made up of trumpeters from 3 countries and several states. For further information, please contact Professor Steve Leisring at leisring@ku.edu
