Instrumental Collegium Musicum Winter Concert February 28

Tuesday, February 23, 2016

LAWRENCE - The University of Kansas Instrumental Collegium Musicum will present its Winter Concert on Sunday, February 28 at 7:30 PM in the lovely new Swarthout Recital Hall. The concert is free and open to the public.

The program will include works for voices and instruments from the Middle Ages, Renaissance, and Baroque eras. Represented on the concert are several of the most famous composers and pieces of the periods: excerpts from the Messe de Nostre Dame by Guillaume de Machaut (c 1300-1377), selections from the Vespers of 1610 by Claudio Monteverdi (1567-1643), two madrigals by Don Carlo Gesualdo (1566-1613), a motet by Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina (1525/6-1594), a cello suite by Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750), and other works.

The Instrumental Collegium Musicum performs on instruments like those in use during the Renaissance and Baroque periods. Musicians include singers Leslee Wood and Caitlin Laird (also playing Baroque violin), harpsichordist and singer Evan Kramer, Baroque violinist Katina Bilberry, and recorder players Hon Ki Cheung, Melissa Cummins, Jo Kraus, and Margaret Lambie. The director is Paul Laird, professor of musicology, who will play Baroque cello.
