LAWRENCE - In March 2013, the University of Kansas Wind Ensemble, led by conductor Paul W. Popiel, made the trip of a lifetime to perform the world premiere of composer Mohammed Fairouz’s Symphony No. 4, In the Shadow of No Towers at Carnegie Hall. The new hour-long documentary “From Concept to Concert Hall” follows this remarkable KU experience from its inception to the symphony’s critically acclaimed Carnegie Hall debut.
“From Concept to Concert Hall” will air on Kansas Public Television (KCPT) at 7:30 p.m. Thurs. Sept. 11.
Fairouz composed his work as an examination of living in the post-9/11 world. In the Shadow of No Towers, Fairouz’s first piece written for wind ensemble, is a symphony about the events of 9/11, the days and years that have followed, and how the aftermath has shaped people in today’s political climate.
