KU Clarinet Choir tours Lawrence Public Schools
Last month the KU Clarinet Choir toured Lawrence Public Schools with a program of popular and contemporary favorites, each work focusing on how music tells a story. The clarinet choir visited Central Junior High School, Southwest Junior High School, and Quail Run Elementary School, performing for over 150 students.
The choir collaborated with KU doctoral student Michael E. Scott-Nelson, performing his composition for clarinet choir entitled Summoning. The Clarinet Choir also featured Madison Mikenna, a KU opera/voice student, who performed Mozart's "Der Holle Rache" from Die Zauberflote. Other works on the program included Gabriel Pierne;'s March of the Little Lead Soldiers, Samuel Barber's Adagio, and Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov's "Flight of the Bumblebee" from The Tale of the Tsar Saltan.
The University of Kansas Clarinet Choir is co-directed by KU clarinet performance doctoral candidates Christopher Nichols and Gary Fair. The members of the clarinet choir include: Eric Umble, Melissa Hill, Rebecca Stapfer, Leah Bernstein, Puyin Bai, Molly Wilkinson, Emily Glaser, Courtney Chaffins, Shirin Abvabi, Joseph Stuever, and Timothy Hewitt.
