Wednesday, January 28, 2015

LAWRENCE - The KU School of Music Prairie Winds & Sunflower Strings Festival concludes with a free concert at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 1st at the Lied Center of Kansas.

The twelfth annual Prairie Winds Festival and the inaugural Sunflower Strings Festival begin Friday, Jan. 30 in Murphy Hall. The Festival is an opportunity for advanced instruction for outstanding high school wind, percussion, and string performers in a supportive, yet challenging environment. Student musicians from Kansas and across the country will travel to Lawrence to participate in the three-day festival (Jan. 30 – Feb. 1).

During the festival, high school students participate in master classes, clinics, chamber ensembles and performances in select wind ensembles with KU School of Music faculty musicians.

The participants conclude the festival with a performance for family, friends and the community at the Lied Center on February 1st. The concert is free and open to the public. The program will also be live streamed and is available to watch here: http://new.livestream.com/liedcenter/som-feb1-14.
