LAWRENCE - The University of Kansas Symphony Orchestra, conducted by David Neely, director of orchestral activities, will present a concert on Tuesday, March 22 at 7:30 p.m. at the Lied Center of Kansas.
The concert will feature soloist Mi Ou Lee, winner of the 2016 KU School of Music Concerto Competition, in Piano Concerto No. 1 in D-flat Major, Op. 10 by Sergei Prokofiev. Lee is a graduate student in piano performance from Vancouver, Canada studying with Steven Spooner, associate professor of piano. The annual concerto competition highlights excellence in orchestral instrument or piano performance by KU School of Music students. A panel of outside experts from regional institutions selects the winner.
Tuesday’s concert will open with Neely conducting Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun by Claude Debussy and feature flute soloist Maddie Bert. Ottorino Respighi’s Fountains of Rome, led by student conductor Raffaele Cipriano, will conclude the concert.
