LAWRENCE - The University of Kansas Tuba Euphonium Consort and the Wind Ensemble will present a shared concert at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 23 at the Lied Center of Kansas.

Scott Watson, professor of tuba and euphonium, will conduct the Tuba Euphonium Consort, which includes Fanfare for a Friend (1991) by John Stevens, Sleep, by Eric Whitacre, arr. Michael Blackmom, and the world premiere of On the Wind-Battered Staircase by Nicholas Shaheed. Tangents, Op. 109 (Overture) by James Barnes, professor of music theory & music composition, will be conducted by the composer.
The Wind Ensemble program includes Overture to Candide (1956) by Leonard Bernstein, arr. Clare Grundman, conducted by Steven Smyth; First Suite in E-flat, Op. 28, No. 1 (1909) by Gustav Holst, ed. Matthews, and Pale Blue on Deep (2011) by Aaron Perrine, conducted by Allison Cockshaw; Valor, Op. 113 (2002) by James Barnes, who is also conducting the piece; Irish Tune from County Derry (1918) by Percy Grainger, ed. Rogers, conducted by Robert E. Foster, professor of music education & music theory; and Dionysiaques, Op. 62, (1913) by Florent Schmitt, ed. Hauswirth, conducted by Paul Popiel, director of bands.
