LAWRENCE - The University of Kansas Wind Ensemble, conducted by Paul W. Popiel, director of bands, will present its first concert of the 2015-2016 season at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 6 at the Lied Center of Kansas.
The performance features music by resident, award-winning composers Joni Greene and Aaron Perrine. The Moon Glistens, by Joni Greene, is a work based on six different haiku, dating back to 14th-17th century Japanese poetry. Only Light, by Aaron Perrine, was written when Perrine was moved by two friends’ display of strength and courage through adversity and is meant to convey a sense of hope and healing.
In the days leading up to the concert, the Wind Ensemble will also record three pieces for an upcoming Naxos CD, and the concert will feature the recorded pieces. The performance will serve as an opportunity to show the audience what a professional recording process looks like, with the microphones still in place from the recording.
Tickets are $8 for adults and $6 for children, seniors and students. Tickets can be purchased at the Lied Center Ticket Office, by phone at 785-864-2787 or online at lied.ku.edu.
For those unable to attend the concert in person, a free live stream is available by visiting http://livestream.com/liedcenter/KUWind100615.
